Effect of GA4+7+BA Application at Flowering Stage on Fruit Development and Seed Formation of Fuji Apples

Abstract
This study was conducted to know the effect of GA_(4+7)+ BA application at flowering stage on fruit development and seed formation of ¢¥Fuji¢¥ apples. Two to three sprays of 12-36 §·¡¤L^(-1) GA_(4+7)+BA before and after full bloom of central flower (FBCF), and one spray of 36-180 §·¡¤L^(-1) GA_(4+7)+BA at 0 and 10 days after FBCF were conducted. These all treatments increased weight, length and length/diameter (L/D) ratio of ¢¥Fuji¢¥ apple fruits. However fruit cluster set, fruit number per fruit cluster and seed number per fruit were not different from untreated control. Asymmetric fruits sampled from apple trees treated with GA_(4+7)+ BA at flowering stage had less seeds than normal symmetric fruits. No and one seed fruits accounted for greater than 60% of asymmetric fruits. When GA_(4+7)+ BA at 18 §·¡¤L^(-1) was applied to unpollinated flowers, either singly at FBCF or twice at FBCF and 6 days after FBCF, the fruits continued to grow until 20 days after petal fall (PF). Although 100% abscission was occurred at fruits unpollinated during 10 days after PF, unpollinated fruits treated with GA_(4+7)+BA showed less than 50% abscission during 20 days after PF.
